Not everybody knows that each year about 630.000 kilos
of sugar is being produced in Abruzzo.
The sugar-beet cultivation covers about 4.000 hectares, 2.000 of which
are on the Fucino plain, one of the traditional areas in Italy for sugar-beet
growing, and 400 of them are located in the Palentini fields, in the
Marsica area; and in the coastal areas near Chieti, Pescara and Teramo.
All of the sugar-beet is converted after harvesting, in the sugar-refineries
of Termoli and Celano, where a company named Sadam packages the product
in little bags and cartons.
