There is a long
history of leather goods production in the land of Abruzzo. The first
factories were built in Alba Adriatica and Teramo, after the second
world war. Many of these factories are still active today. The majority
of companies produce under their own brand name, distributing goods
using their net sales.
There are also those
factories which produce for the bigger names, due to the high quality
professionalism that these companies have reached over the years.
In fact, the Abruzzo leather goods industry is distributed globally,
throughout the international market.
In the year 2000
exportation of leather goods accounted for 20% of total production,
almost all of these being exported to northern Europe. This is an excellent
figure when one considers the competition from the far-east and eastern
Europe.
