The Pescara Valley Industrial Consortium is involved
in the industrial complexes of Chieti Scalo and Pescara (the largest in
Abruzzo, situated in the region’s most densely populated area),
of Ortona and of Città Sant’Angelo.
In addition, this consortium is of prime importance for some primary
infrastructures serving the economic interests of the entire region
– for example, the airport of Pescara, the regional port of Ortona,
the Pescara Valley Interport, the Adriatic and Pescara-Rome railway
lines, which interconnect precisely at the terminal point of the Pescara
River Valley, the A14 Adriatica Motorway and the A25 Pescara-Rome Motorway,
which also follow the same north-south and east-west routes as the railway
lines.
Unlike almost all the other industrial areas in the province and indeed
throughout the region, which are generally situated outside the urban
areas and are quite independent of them, both in terms of planning and
in social and cultural terms, the Pescara Valley industrial area has
not only brought about the creation of Chieti-Pescara but is also the
most classic example in Abruzzo of an urban industrial area along the
lines of the large industrial cities of central and northern Italy.
